I believe the traditional solution is one of these.

Alternatively, fit four of your own *first*. That should make things
difficult for the clampers. ;-)

Its a pity someone hasn't taken an old car, filled it with a few tons of
lead or concrete and left it in a tow away zone and filmed the tow truck
trying to lift it. That would be a laugh :)

Some moons ago I had an ex GPO red van, a Bedford TK, after ticketing
it they tried to lift it on to the back of a recovery truck which was
also a 7.5 ton vehicle, all they achieved was to raise the off side of
their truck until the wheels were clear of the road, they gave up but
left the ticket on the windscreen, we were all watching from the cafe
on the other side of the road.

Well I suppose its comforting to know that the care in the community scheme
is expanding its roles for the mentally handicapped.

Welll it has been known for years that all wheel clampers are mentally
handicapped!

A friend of mine did something very similar. His car was parked on his
drive with about 6" sticking out over the pavement. He got a ticket
for having an untaxed vehicle on the road.

"You have to get it taxed, MOT'ed & insured if you want to keep it on
the road", says the DVLA. "It would never pass an MOT in a million
years; it's a donor car for parts" says he. "Well, either pay the fine
or we'll come & tow it away". "OK", says he. In the meantime, some
unscrupulous people in the neighbourhood took the opportunity to fill
the boot & the seatwells with builder's rubble, dried bags of cement,
etc.

Apparently, the tow truck nearly toppled over. He didn't film it
unfortunately.

I know of someone that filled their car with all their garden waste and crap they were going to git rid of, in a car that was technically written off before it got towed away by the council for unpaid parking tickets. I think they worked out they saved a few hundred plus obviously the debt was then cleared.

Is that a social faux pas or something? Who cares? Are wheel clamps a subject which is somehow time sensitive?

When I was at university you could only park on campus with a permit, which
they only issued in exceptional circumstances.
A friend of mine simply parked up and waited for the clamp to be fitted then
popped out in the night and cropped the padlock off it and replaced it with
his own.
Every time he went for a drive the clamp went in the boot and got refitted
on his return and he got away with that for an entire year.
